    Good morning Coding Team,

I have a question about billing Z80-Z87 codes on a delivery. If a patient is being induced due to previous IUFD during pregnancy would you put Z87.59 on the delivery charge since you are not able to code O09.- on the delivery because they only are billed on the antepartum record. Another example patient has a history of 3rd or 4th-degree laceration in previous pregnancy would you use Z87.59 on the delivery or would you leave it off?

Asking because our coding lead directs us to bill for this stuff but to bill out like this:

    O99.892
    Z87.59

I prefer to leave these off but the guidelines it does show that Z codes are not in the series classification for bill O99.891-

When someone is able if someone could get back with me on this so I can get clarification I would truly appreciate it.

    Thanks,

    Hi Norah,
I thought it would be appropriate to use O09.293 (Supervision of pregnancy with other poor reproductive or obstetric history, third trimester) if delivered in the third trimester with a h/o prior IUFD since the condition is present on admission for delivery. I am having doubts now after doing some research. This code is in DRG-998 (Principal Diagnosis Invalid as Discharge Diagnosis) but is exempt from POA (present on Admission) reporting. Does that mean we could use it?
Please post your question on the SMFM coding committee website  https://www.smfm.org/coding/questions  to confirm the answer.
    Thanks
    Fadi
