  • 1.  Universal testing on L&D

We are beginning a universal testing protocol on our L&D unit via a rapid test. For other institutions who are also doing universal testing, are you using N95/PAPR for care of asymptomatic patients while awaiting the 1-2 hours for their test result? I'm sure a lot depends on PPE supply, but I'm curious how other institutions are approaching if patient is asymptomatic.

We are using surgical masks on patients and staff, for 2nd Stage and C/S, everyone using N-95.  Abbott rapid test was a failure in the Hospitals in the  BSMH system that have tried to validate in known positive patients. False Negative rate of 60%! Unless you have a validated rapid test, would still treat as PUI during labor and delivery.

What were your methods for the Abbott validation? There was an issue with using the viral transport medium diluting the sample. Once we started using dry swabs and validated them against the Cepheid test there was over 95% concordance.
