I wish we could test all patient admitted to the hospital but still 48 hour turn around.  Working towards universal testing.

Have you now considered the Abbott ID-NOW platform with a very rapid TAT ?
Are asymptomatic carriers a true concern ?  Do we know enough ?

Many labs have the Abbott ID NOW platform, but there will be very limited availability of the COVID-19 test kits until manufacturing ramps up. Until then, Abbott will be allocating their tests to areas of greatest need.
Asymptomatic carriers are a true concern based on recent MMWR report indicating 6-13% of cases were due to presymptomatic transmission. (Wei, et al MMWR 2020;69:1-4). This report includes very detailed contact tracing data from Singapore and estimates from China.

Indeed. I am a firm believer in advocating for our patients. Will Abbott need 24/7 work to ramp up?  Do it.

Due to testing capability limitations we are not able to test patients who do not have symptoms/findings that would warrant testing even if they were not pregnant.

Thank you so very much W.  It looks to me that the limitation is put on by scarce resources more than on the true

lack of need,  if we recognize the silent carrier.  Again, contacting the companies that advertise their ability to provide so our patients receive optimal care may be of use.  Abbott says they are producing 50,000 tests /day.

Thanks a lot, stay healthy and corona free.

    Best
