Children in the ultrasound exam room

I wonder if most practices allow children (< 8-12 years old) in the ultrasound exam room with the patient. Specifically, I have concern for child safety due to possible fall risk, being in a dark room with cords and equipment, as well as tech distraction during the exam if the child is unruly (screaming, running around, etc.) and the patient unable to supervise without interrupting the exam. So the question is: do you have age limit on visitors to the ultrasound exam room?
    Thanks for your input

Generally speaking, children are not permitted in the exam room. However, it is unrealistic to assume that situations will not arise. If it is unavoidable that a child/children must be brought to an appointment, an attempt is made to have another tech or staff member supervise them. If no one else is available, we ask that older children sit or stand at the back of the room. Toddlers/babies are placed next to the Mother in the bed so that they feel more comfortable. While every effort is made to accommodate the patients, if there are too many children or their safety is questionable, the appointment must be rescheduled and prior arrangements made.
