Bio

I am kind of a nontraditional fellow in the sense that I did not start fellowship right out of residency.  I had told myself during residency that I could only see myself completing a fellowship if I went straight through.  Well, unfortunately, life had other plans for me.  During medical school I was selected for a Health Professions Scholarship and signed with the Air Force.  After residency, the Air Force informed me I was moving to Alaska!  My family and I (husband and one son at that time) moved four time zones away and lived in Alaska for three years where I worked as a staff Obstetrician/Gynecologist.  This was an amazing experience as there isn't an abundance of resources in Alaska.  I got to spread my wings and really learn the medicine behind what I had trained for in residency.  I felt like I could hone my interests for high risk patients while in Alaska since we did not have an MFM on staff at our military hospital.  Life was great!
Then my military commitment was over and we decided to move back to the East coast to be closer to family.  I accepted a position at the hospital I completed my residency at as a generalist.  I was also given the position of Third Year Medical Student Clerkship Director.  While I enjoyed my time learning about teaching and mentoring students, I felt as though something was missing.  I missed being able to take care of high risk patients and think through their diagnoses and walk them through difficult pregnancies.  I desired more opportunities for research in the field that I loved.  After three years on staff I decided to make the jump to apply for fellowship.  And here I am!  This was the best decision I have made.  I feel so much more fulfilled in my job and love the ability to take care of patients and research at the same time.
My immediate family includes my husband, two sons, and one daughter.  They are my constant source of support and encouragement.  We enjoy the time we have together playing board games, coloring, taking trips, and having "movie nights."
