When I left academics to start a private practice, my residency director predicted that I would be disappointed because only an academic position would offer a good balance between patient care, research, and teaching.  But he was very wrong!

Currently, I have a 0.6 FTE position in a 5-physician full-service MFM practice, seeing patients in the office 3 days per week and taking a 1-in-5 share of call for our inpatient service.  The other 0.4 FTE is dedicated to quality and safety improvement, developing and implementing initiatives both locally and as the lead for quality and safety for the 30 Mednax MFM practices nationwide.  This year, I stepped down from my previous position as Associate Director for MFM research with Mednax/Obstetrix, where I was fortunate to be able to lead and participate in all the clinical trials of the Obstetrix Collaborative Research Network.  We don't have residents or fellows at our local practice, but maintain active roles in teaching the Ob/Gyn physicians and perinatal nurses in our community and our outreach areas.

Work is balanced by generous vacation time to enjoy travel, music, food, and family.
