  • 1.  Policy for substance use disorder patients

    Hi all -

At UNC, we are working on developing a policy for our inpatients who are admitted for transition to suboxone / methadone for opiate use disorder. These patients are admitted to our antepartum service. Do you have a policy regarding rules for inpatient visitors, frequency of tox screens, and under what circumstances patients can leave the unit / leave the floor?

    Thanks in advance!

I would assume that they would not be able to leave the area but I think having visitors should not be a problem.

I would question the reasoning for inpatient induction for Subutex/Suboxone for most patients as most centers do this on an outpatient basis or even home based inductions.  Our clinic is currently being set up and will be providing this to most patients on an outpatient office basis.  Of course the people that would fall out would be usual suspects of drug or alcohol use that are contraindications.

I am glad you guys are taking this on too.   We should all be able to learn from each other through this important process.
