Practice Management

After being in a MFM physician management role for the last 12 years, I have recently stepped back into an administrative role over perinatal services including the perinatal outpatient center. I have a physician wanting to put "Ultrasound with consult if applicable" as the only option for all ultrasounds and consults without designating if outpatient management is desired or not. This was unacceptable a few years ago but I don't know what the current requirements are. Does anyone know where the criteria and suggested wording for referral forms might be or could someone update me?  I'm looking forward to returning to the management meetings. They always provided a wealth of information. Thank you for the help!

    Hello Donna,
It is usually better to have separate requests when possible, particularly if co-management or care transfer are desired. For a simple one-time consultation, stating "ultrasound, with consult if applicable" is acceptable.

Agree with Fadi. We used Consult with UTZ if indicated or Utz with consult if indicated. Saves lots of time and work. Do neef othere s if Dr's want co management or transfer of care but one could get that after the consult and UTZ.

Thank you!  I'll take this opportunity to also thank you for the countless hours you have poured into the education and development of those coming behind you. As one who has benefited greatly from the creation of AMFMM, I am very grateful for you and Dr Iriye and your leadership.
