Hi Julianne,
We currently use 2 genetics labs. One of them interfaces directly with our EMR which is great. For the other, we fill the requisition sheet then our lab draws the sample and sends it to the outside lab. We can then interface directly to its portal to get the results, which.also come by fax. In turn, these are scanned into the EMR. Many of the genetic labs have agreements with the large EMR companies to integrate the results in the EMR which is ideal. Limiting your outside lab options to 1-2 labs is probably best to also streamline your process.

Subject: Genetic lab test processing and result management
Hello - does your practice collect specimens for genetic testing and send to outside labs? If so, would you share with me how your practice handles results? We use 15 outside labs for genetic testing processing and the process to send and receive results seems inefficient and disjointed. I would appreciate information on your process and if you deem it efficient or cumbersome. If you wish to share via email; jrowe@wellspan.org
Warm regards,
