  • 1.  UAD with Fetal Echo

    When billing for FE, 76825(6), 76827(8), and 93325, does the 76827(8) cover the UAD that is performed as part of the echo? Should the 76820 be billed as well?

    Hi Elizabeth,
    According to the AIUM Practice Parameter for the Performance of Fetal Echocardiography, pulsed-wave Doppler of the umbilical artery is included when clinically relevant to evaluate flow abnormalities. Therefore, Doppler of the umbilical artery would be included with fetal echocardiography if done in the same encounter. 76820 should not be added to the fetal echo codes.

    What if we are not doing an echo on this encounter?  i.e. UAD, MCA and DV for FGR?  What do we bill then?

    So long as you have an appropriate indication, there are CPT codes for Umbilical Doppler (76820) and MCA Doppler (76821). There is no code to bill for Ductus venous Doppler.

    You would bill the CPT codes for UA Doppler (76820) and MCA Doppler (76821) only. There is no dedicated CPT code for DV Doppler.
